The take
Taurus Agricultural Marketing is a Canadian fertility company that found its way onto a water map through fertilizer. Since 2001 it has sold crop-nutrition products to growers across Western Canada, and along the way it took a strategic stake in Ostara Nutrient Recovery Technologies, the company that strips phosphorus out of municipal and industrial wastewater and reforms it into a slow-release granule sold as Crystal Green.
Taurus came at Ostara as a customer before it became an owner. It signed an exclusive agreement in 2018 to distribute Crystal Green to Western Canadian growers, trialed the granule across two growing seasons, and from there deepened the relationship into a strategic equity stake. That is the tell: Taurus is a strategic corporate investor, not a venture fund, and Ostara is the only water-sector position I can find in its book.
